To raise the standard of Christian living for those called to be saints through the teaching of the Revealed Word of God, encouragement and Spiritual enrichment.
To equip and empower disciples of Christ to do the Work of Ministry and Service by the example of Christian love through Word, Worship and Prayer.
In November of 2005 a vision from the Lord was given to Pastor Terry J. Barrett to return to Columbia, SC to establish ministry to ALL God’s people. Jesus revealed in John 11:25 that “I am the resurrection and the life.” and in John 10:10 that “I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” With these foundational scriptures Pastor Barrett and Co-Pastor Kathy Barrett were given their instructions for ministry, WORD, WORSHIP and Prayer. God instructed the Barrett’s that the ministry would be based on PRAYER, WORSHIP & HIS WORD, on December 31, 2005, we began with prayer in Columbia. The first Friday night in February (February 3, 2006) we held Bible Study and prayer at the home of Pastor Barrett at 521 Bitternut Road. On April 1, 2006 the “Miraculous 5” occurred. Pastor Barrett received strong confirmation to go forward with the assurance that God would do in RLM ministries in 5 years what most ministries would have accomplished in 15 years.
On April 4, 2006, Pastor Barrett was released from the United Methodist Church, where he had been ministering for 17 years as local pastor, Deacon and Elder of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.
On Sunday, April 17, 2006, Resurrection Life Ministries held it’s first official worship service at 9:00am in the den of the home of Pastor Barrett attended by: Pastor, Co-Pastor Kathy & Shannon Barrett; Debra, Tishita, Felicia, Rashad & Caleb Washington; Joel Sr., Tomeka & Joel Jr. Johnson; Missy Cantu; Ingram, Immanuel & Isaiah Thomas and Yolanda & Norman Rhodes. The service later moved to the living room of 521 Bitternut Road and then Gina, Jana & Dashawn Washington began attending. We also had others to visit
during the time we were meeting in the “living room”. As attendance began to grow it was evident that a larger meeting place was needed. On June 12, 2006 we had service at a hotel conference room and on June 19, 2006 services were held at Sesquicentennial State Park.
On June 25, 2006 we had our FIRST worship service in our FIRST building location at 3145 Carlisle St. At that first service there were 35 people committed to Membership at RLM. A week long celebration was held in September 2006 with Pastor’s Cynthia & Jerry Simpkins of Center of Hope Ministries, Pastor Ray McAllister of Peaceful Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Lacie & Saran Jones of Alive in Christ Ministries, Pastor John Lakin of Glory Temple and Pastor Derrick Fort of Great Commission Ministries ministering and joining us in our dedication celebration. On November 23, 2006, 12 people were baptized at Village of Hope Ministries on River Dr. where Charles Austin is pastor. The church family then grew to approximately 70 members strong and we had great expectations and anticipation as we saw the Lord move in this ministry and among His people.
In 2007, RLM continued to grow. Our praise team continued to expand. Dancers of Vision, Boyz to Men and WORKS ministries were established along with Bible Study and membership growth. On December 31, 2007, three people were licensed as ministers—Terrence Barrett, Yolanda Rhodes and Anthony Hingleton.
In 2008, membership growth had expanded to over 100, with baptisms and baby dedications ongoing. In March of 2008 RLM prepared to move to it’s current location, 8254 Garners Ferry Road, as a possible permanent location with room to expand. A renovation project was done that took three months to complete. On June 8, 2008 we had our first worship service at our current location.
Our church membership continued to grow. RLM Mass Choir was established along with other ministry opportunities. A portable baptistery and a security system were purchased. God continued to keep His promises as we witnessed the ordination of First Lady Kathleen Barrett in March 2011. In September 2012 Rev. Terrence Barrett and Rev. Lamonth Ashford were ordained and Shirley Ann Huiett was appointed Deacon. We have claimed and are now in the process of purchasing the property here at 8254 Garners Ferry Road. We are debt free of all our equipment and furnishings. Our ministries are: WORKS (Women Operating On Resurrection Knowledge), Youth Fellowship, Children of Promise, DOV( Dancers of Vision) and Young Adult Ministries. RLM is a member of Evangel Fellowship International of Conway, SC and Zoe Christian Fellowship, where Pastor Terry Barrett is the visionary and current elected Bishop. Zoe Christian Fellowship includes the following ministries; Center of Hope Ministries in Sally, SC; Unity Fellowship Church in Florence, SC; Glory Temple of Praise in Hopkins, SC; Harvest Worship Center in Columbia, SC and Resurrection Life Ministries in Columbia, SC.
We were blessed to employ a church secretary in 2010 and also create a church website- resurrectionlifemin.com. At the beginning of May of 2011we began Sunday School as an extension of ministry. This year’s church improvement projects include the purchasing of hymn books, paving, a LED sign, new sanctuary chairs and sanctuary carpet, the Eddie L. Hingleton Memorial Garden, and Mass Choir robes.
To God be all the glory for the great things that He is doing as we continue with our theme for 2013 of “Do more and talk less”.
